In my curriculum, students have to learn the divisions of the nervous system and what each division is responsible for. I used to give them notes on this topic, and they seemed to understand while I was talking, but had a really tough time remembering what division was responsible for each function and how they were organized.
This activity takes about the same amount of time as taking notes, but puts the onus on the students to “discover” the relationships, and meanings of each term. It has worked really well for my students, and has the students work to build knowledge from what they already know, which makes sense in terms of brain-based learning.
The file contains a very complete set of directions for use, the handout, and an answer key. Everything you need for the lesson. Students will leave with a complete set of notes showing their understanding of the relationships between and descriptions of all the different parts of the nervous system.
