Teens with developmental disabilities receive multitudes of mixed messages when it comes to physical intimacy. The Media portrays relationships developing at breakneck speed... heading right to kissing and more. High school culture is also full of PDAs amongst "typical" students and is confusing to students grappling with what's acceptable and what is not.
This story was developed to help give some of my students options when it comes to intimacy. If you don't feel comfortable holding hands... hold pinkys. And it's okay to kiss on the cheek, just ask first.
The story focuses on a young woman with Down Syndrome who is in a quandry as to what to do with this boy she likes? Should she kiss him? Hmmmm.... Put together with humor and lots of room for overly dramatic reading... :-)
