Product Description

The key to strong, positive classroom management is consistent use of a comprehensive curriculum that includes strategies, lessons and activities that students and teachers love- and that will permanently improve student behavior.

Do Now SEL is a year-long classroom management program that incorporates CASEL’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies into 60 High-Interest Case Study Lessons based on real schools, students and classrooms.

Why You Need Do Now SEL

You became a teacher to teach, but you quickly realized that before any meaningful teaching and learning can occur, your students’ OTHER needs must be met.

There are issues, hurts and problems that need to be addressed BEFORE your classroom can become a happy, calm environment with successful students.

Of course, you have to figure out how to do ALL THAT while also:

  • Establishing rules, routines and procedures so that your class runs smoothly;

  • Ensuring that students respect you, themselves and their classmates;

  • Teaching the regular curriculum, administering assessments and staying in contact with parents.

Yikes! There is simply not enough time to do it all.

Before you throw your hands up in defeat, know that there is a resource available to help you have a happy and successful classroom: Do Now SEL.

Do Now SEL is an organized, easy-to-follow program that takes a pro-active approach to SEL and includes simple strategies and fun activities that get students thinking, reflecting and writing as soon as they walk in your classroom and sit down!

The program addresses the most common behavior issues with high-interest case studies and questions (no prep printables!). These 60 case study lessons are based on REAL Schools, Students and Classrooms.

While students read, write and think, you can take roll, sip your coffee and nibble on some breakfast chocolate. :)

Why You Should Start Your Day with A Do Now

Do Nows (a first-thing, warm-up activity; bell work) benefit students AND teachers:

* Provide an easy transition into the school day

* Establish clear classroom routines and management

* Set the tone and focus for the day

* Signal that it is time to learn

* Encourage students to settle in and settle down

* Increase student motivation with an expected activity

* Give teachers a quiet moment to think at the beginning of class!

The do now lessons and activities in this program work great for morning meetings, small group/ center work, end of day lessons- even homework! They can also be used again if you notice that the class needs a “refresher” in a certain area.
