Shirley Chisholm was the first African-American woman to serve in the United States House of Representatives. She was also the first woman to run for President. Unbelievably, very few people know her name. I'm hoping to change that with this product.
Help your students learn more about Shirley Chisholm through this original poem and its accompanying resources. Perfect for close reading, the poem and quotes in this packet will help your students to learn about this great American trailblazer as they also practice comprehension skills and strategies. The four discussion/response questions will encourage students to make inferences and to use text evidence to support their answers.
This product is the first in an upcoming series of products about lesser-known figures in American History. It can be used during Black History month, Women's History month, or any other time of year. Please leave feedback below to let me know what you think.
