The “Do-it-yourself Calendario Español - enero • febrero • marzo” may be presented as a written or oral exercise. It includes a theme drawing and vocabulary list where students must find and identify the objects listed or talk about the picture. For the younger students it is a fun way for them to practice the days of the week, vocabulary for each month and everyday activities. For the higher grades, a weekly planner is included so that students may write about things that they are doing, will do or have done. Color stickers are also included which may be cut out and glued directly onto the calendar pages or on the weekly agenda to remind students of important dates or just for decoration. There are also some blank spaces for students to draw their own stickers. When I do this activity in my classes the students love it because they are able to create their own personalized calendar.
This calendar may be used every year. All that you need is the current calendar for that specific year to write in the dates correctly. The pages may be enlarged for more writing space or projected onto the wall. The lesson also comes with the calendar drawings in color and in black and white, a vocabulary list for each month and for the year, the numbers 1-31, the months, the days of the week, and the activities or events for the stickers. This is a very effective method for engaging students in learning vocabulary, writing or speaking Spanish in the present, the future or the past.
