The Do-it-yourself October Calendar may be presented as a written or oral exercise. It includes a Halloween theme drawing and vocabulary list where students must find and identify the objects listed. This is a good activity for the younger students. It is a fun way for them to practice the days of the week, vocabulary for everyday activities, and Halloween. For the higher grades, a weekly planner is included so that students may write about things that they are doing, will do or have done. Color stickers are also included which may be glued directly onto the pages. When I do this activity in my classes the students love it because they are able to create their own personalized calendar. The October calendar may be used every year. All that you need is the current calendar for that specific year to write in the dates correctly. The drawings come in color or in black and white. It also serves as a good classroom or homework activity where students must write or talk about what they did according to the stickers that they glued onto their page allowing the teacher to assess their communication and comprehension skills. Pages may be enlarged for more writing space or projected onto the wall. The lesson also comes with a vocabulary list of the numbers 1-31, the months, the days of the week and the activities or events for the stickers.
