This powerpoint contains a mini-lesson on the poem "Do not go gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas, with author background information. The lesson consists of a stanza-by-stanza paraphrase of the poem, explanation of the Villanelle form, basic introduction to meter and Iambic Pentameter, and insight into the themes, symbols, and sound devices used. I have also included images of Dylan Thomas and his home country of Wales, as well as links to two readings of the poem, with one being by Thomas himself!
This would be a great lesson for high schoolers learning about poetic form and meter, particularly the villanelle, however I used it with my seventh and eighth graders, and they enjoyed it!
