PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a powerful lesson for students to see a modern connection to the past.
Before this lesson, you should discuss with students how the North was complicit in slavery as much as the South was in the years prior to the Civil War. Northerners profited greatly off the backs of slave labor, whether they would have wanted to admit it or not.

This lesson poses the question: Do we profit from slavery today?

It uses multi-media clips about Nike and Apple as well as a song called "Are My Hands Clean" about the amazing process of the production of a simple blouse purchased from Sears...all the corporations and nations involved and the third world workers used at very low wages.

The lesson also considers the potential positives of sweatshops. They do provide a better opportunity than is otherwise available to may people in developing nations.

Students then have to weigh the pros and cons and decide for themselves what they think.

Package includes all the handouts and the PowerPoint, which guides you through the lesson with embedded timers.
