Why use this document?
Using this document within your observations, documentation and planning for your service as a whole, separate classrooms or individual children provides evidence that you are basing your practice on the Australian Early Years Learning Framework which is required under the National Quality Standards under Quality Area 1: Educational program and practice.
1.1 An approved learning framework informs the development of a curriculum that enhances each child’s learning and development
1.2 Educators and co-ordinators are focused, active and reflective in designing and delivering the program for each child
What is included:
*Two copies of the EYLF's 5 Learning Outcomes. Highlight as you go format and copy and past format.
*Both contain detailed and (most importantly, for me!) numbered outcomes. I personally use the following method of referencing the EYLF, so that I can specifically reference exactly what the child is achieving, rather than generally "Outcome 1" or "Outcome 1.4". This document will allow you to quickly and easily reference the numbered outcome. The format is as follows:
Meeting Outcome 1.4.1: Show interest in other children and being part of a group etc.
*The highlight-as-you-go copywill fit two A4 pages (printed back to back). This can be used as a checklist for experience plans or observations (I staple them together), easily allowing you to highlight the relevant outcomes (I colour code "working towards" "sometimes meeting" "meeting" and "excelling".) This process means I can, when perusing experience plans or observations of a specific child, see progress at a glance.
*The copy-and-paste format ensures the numbers are copy-able as well as the individual outcomes. Having this handy on your computer is a life-saver if you're referencing the outcomes in documentation! It makes being able to use the "Outcome 4.2.1" method so much more manageable- as anyone who's tried to copy-and-paste from the official EYLF document will know, the formatting is definitely not ideal!
