This is more than just a read-aloud. During February, Dental Health Awareness month is celebrated, yet sometimes my classroom teachers have too many other areas to study. So to help them cover Dental Health Awareness month, I love conducting this integrated library lesson. In one 45-minute lesson I get in dental health, story elements, research skills, database, technology and more. This lesson is adaptable from a group lesson to small group lesson, depending on the exposure your students have had to databases thus far. You will want access to one (or more) of the following databases: Worldbook Online and/or Britannica and/or Pebble Go. The animals to be researched in this lesson can be found on all the above databases.
This lesson takes little prep... print animal pictures and laminate, locate the book, draw a T-chart, print out username/password cards... ready to go!
Key words: library skills, databases, inquiry, research, dental health, fiction, read-aloud, award winning book, dentist, carnivores, herbivores, animals
