(From HistoryChic's Treasure Trove)
This is a handout that you can give to students to help them learn to analyze documents effectively. It has a chart for them to fill out and then space to write down all that they've been able to gleam from a given document.
I recommend printing out enough for each student to have four or five copies of this handout. Do an initial document together as a class (you may even want to do two together). Then have students do one or two documents with a partner or in a small group. Finally, have them do one or two alone.
This can be a very useful exercise if you are teaching any of the AP history courses (AP World History, AP US History, AP European History), since students have to perform document analysis for the DBQ.
