This is one of my favorite things to teach year in and year out. The students are introduced to what a documentary is (information is pulled and cited from Unesco on the first few pages), and then what the outline, expectations, and filming guidelines are. There is a rubric for each of the four jobs: producer, writer, cameraperson, and anchor. They create scripts, storyboard, Google Site, Youtube video, and interview questions as well as an initial planning document.
It provides possible topics, is in chronological order, and allows for student choice while still providing structure. There are detailed instructions as to how the Google Site will need to work, and how to integrate technology as they work. The editing/filing software that they choose is completely student directed which students love every year!
**There is also a documentary PowerPoint that goes along with this to make presenting quick and easy**
