Students will use their math skills to create a 3-dimensional dodecahedron and will include the number of faces, edges, and vertices. This is an ultimate reading project for a chapter book. Each panel (or face) of the dodecahedron focuses on a different reading skill. Some of the skills include theme, point of view, character description, and summary. This project includes detailed directions to send home, a grading rubric for both a math grade and a reading grade, a template for cutting out the panels (faces), and a complete set of directions in Spanish for ESL or EL students to take home for their parents to read. This project was created for a 4th grade classroom, but could easily be used for any grade 3rd-6th. This is a 3 week or longer home project that would be a great end of year project for 3rd and 4th graders, or an earlier in the year "review" project for 5th and 6th graders.
