Title: Does ART influence CULTURE or does CULTURE influence ART? Think, Debate, Decide!
In this lesson, students will consider the power of art to influence society as well as the ways in which society reflects and responds to art. Students will discuss and debate the issue with their classmates and defend their stance with examples. Students will also delve deeper into this concept by examining three “Case in Points” (2 videos & 1 artwork) that put the related concepts in real world context.
If you like this lesson consider purchasing the accompanying Brand Identity project/lesson where students become graphic designers and product engineers as they devise a new product or improve upon an existing product as well as create the packaging for the product. This real-world application focuses on the elements of a brand identity. Color-scheme, logo, slogan, typeface and even delve into a little color psychology. Students will identify a target audience for the product they create to see if they can create art/design that can influence society.
