This visual is to help students listen as they read by prompting them to use critical questions such as: “Does it look right, Does it sound right? Does it make sense?”
- to cue the students to pay attention to the spelling of the word. If the students reads the word “car” but the letters are “c-a-t”- it does not look right- it does not match with the word the student read. It can also cue the students to look to the illustration - does it match the words? (if not- maybe the student should re-read the words).
- - is to cue the student's to pay attention to irregular words or words we read by sight and not by sounding them out. For example: if the student reads the word “is” as “/i/” and “/s/” it would not sound right. (if not- maybe the student should re-read the words).
- - this is to cue the students to listen to the whole sentence and think if it makes sense. Which word does not belong in the sentence? Do the words match the illustration? Do they match the words that came before? (if not- maybe the student should re-read the words).
