Each year on the first day of school while I go over the general information of the classroom, I give each student some Dog Ate My Homework slips. Depending on the grade, it may be four [four quarters] or more.
Students of all ages live busy lives inside of school and away from the classroom in their personal lives. Perhaps Briana will go home one night with plans to do the Math homework only to find out Gramma Audrey is taking the family to the local Red Lobster. No homework is going to be done that night; and, really, it isn't the child's fault. This pass allows for times like that. I offer extra credit at the end of the year for unused DATH slips. Surprisingly, the students don't often need them and are delighted to turn the DATH slips in for the extra half points added onto their subject of choice at the end of the year.. The guidelines are typed right on the passes and there are four per sheet.
