This set includes the Cloze story practice that accompanies the Dolch Pre-Primer sight word set.
The Dolch sight words are a list of 220 words divided into 5 levels. These are the most frequently seen words throughout children’s literature. There is also an additional list of 96 nouns. These words are harder to sound out, it at all, and thus need to be learned my sight. Increasing the student’s ability and fluency with these words dramatically improves their overall reading ability and fluency.
I currently use the Dolch sight words in my ESOL classroom as a means of ability as well as fluency. Once a set has been mastered I time the students on how fast they can say each word in the set, only attempts with 100% accuracy are recorded. Each time they beat their time they are rewarded!
ELL need many forms of practice to ensure comprehension. I have created the following cloze sentences as well as reading practice to ensure comprehension of the sight words.
