The Dolch word list includes the most common 220 words and 95 nouns children encounter in reading material. Dolch words, or sight words, are important in early reading development because they represent high-frequency words and may be difficult to sound out. From 50-75% of all words used in school books, library books, newspapers, and magazines are in the Dolch Basic Sight Vocabulary.
It is important for young readers to be able to instantly recognize these high frequency words in order to be proficient and fluent readers.
This set provides a perfect opportunity for young learners to practice their sight words. It’s also an opportunity to introduce word search puzzles to your students. The puzzles are made very simple for the little ones, each puzzle contains four words that go only in the across and down directions. Students will pull the strips through the cards and find each of the four words. They will be excited as they find each word. There are matching flash cards included which can be placed on a ring for further practice.
They are easy to assemble; use a sharp knife to cut the two horizontal lines on each card then weave the strips through.
