This resource has several different games that are designed to be used with my Dolch Word flashcards product (not included - see link at bottom of page). These games are designed to print 'n' go, and are perfect for literacy centers, guided reading groups, and RTI or special education intervention groups. If you don't want to purchase the flashcards, I've provided a six-page list of the Fry word phrases and a template in this packet for you to make your own flashcards. A breakdown of the packet's contents is as follows:
Roll ‘N Read
Kids roll a die, then take that many cards from the stack. They read the cards & keep the ones they read correctly. The player with the most cards when the deck is gone wins!
Kids flip cards over and read the phrases until they flip over a "Red Light" card, then remove the cards they read correctly. The next player starts reading where the first one left off. The player with the most cards when the deck is gone wins!
Good Apple, Bad Apple
Kids flip cards over and read the phrases until they flip over either a "Good Apple" card, which gives them an extra turn, or a "Bad Apple" card, which requires them to put their cards back in the deck. The next player starts reading where the first one left off. The player with the most cards when the deck is gone wins!
Build It Up!
In this Leg*-themed game, kids get to put phrases they read correctly on their game mats. The first player to cover up all the Legos on their mat wins!
Spin 'N Read
Kids spin a number, draw that many cards, and read them to the other players. They keep any cards they read correctly. The player with the most cards when the deck is gone wins!
Each space on the game board has a number from 1-3. Kids roll a die, move forward, draw the number of phrase cards indicated by the space they landed on,
and read the cards to the other players. The first player to reach the end wins!
Sight Word Smack
Kids lay flashcards in an array on the floor or table, then take turns being either a "caller" or a "smacker". The "smacker" uses a hand smacker (printable included) to slap words that are said aloud by the "caller". The Smacker gets to keep any words they get correct. Player with the most cards at the end of the game wins!
I've also included student direction cards for "Minute to Win It" and "Sight Word Throwdown" - these games don't have printable elements, but would only require you to add a single item to the directions card in order to be ready to go (sand timer or bean bag).
This resource is part of a bundle that includes color coded flashcards and Print 'n Go games. The phrases on the flashcards exactly match the phrases on the assessments, and the flashcards fit perfectly on all the game boards. The resources in this bundle can be used separately, but are designed to be used together. You can use the assessments to establish a baseline and progress monitor, and use the flashcards & games for intervention!
