This document includes all 220 Dolch words in text size large enough to be displayed on a classroom word wall as well as a personal word wall for students to keep in their writing folder (a copy could also be sent home to use for writing assignments at home).
Letters and corresponding pictures for sounds are also included. The words are primarily in order of frequency within literature according to Dolch. (However, a few longer words had to be put a little further down the list because of formatting within the document.) The words are broken up by suggested quarterly marking periods (this is the pacing that my school covers the words in first grade (with Kindergarten also covering the "First Marking Period" and first grade reviewing it in the first quarter). The words marked as "Second Grade" are not what Dolch labels second grade words, but rather the words that the teachers in my school cover in second grade. However, most first graders are able to read these words as well by the end of the year and therefore are included so that you can teach them as your children demonstrate they are ready for them. The pacing can be adjusted as teachers see fit. I suggest printing the words on card stock paper and laminating them so that they can be used again each year. The letters with more than one sound (a, e, i, o, u, c, g) can be cut across the middle of the page and the pictures glued on top of the blank square to the right of the letter (making it one continuous strip just like the other letters and pictures). The words could also be printed to put onto a ring for children to practice as flashcards.
