So many great books, so little time! In order to lift my students' levels of thinking, I always read a book before I teach it, but the problem is, even though I remember what happened in the book, I often cannot recall what specifically happened in each chapter, or what leading questions to ask my students based on each chapter, months or even years later when I am teaching it.
After reading this 2014 Newberry Honor book, I decided I wanted to write a novel study about it. So, to help me remember, I wrote a gist for each chapter as well as critical thinking questions for each chapter. This is the answer key! Also included are student work pages for each chapter where they can write their own gist and answer the critical thinking questions.
Now, when I am conferring with a student or partnership who might read this popular book, holding a book club, or doing a read aloud, I can refer to my novel study in order to effectively challenge my students' thinking.

I hope you and your students enjoy reading this book as much as I did!
