This unit was created and has been used with middle school special education students with specific learning disabilities in reading comprehension and basic reading skills. However, the unit would be suitable to use with any student. The unit contains a variety of vocabulary worksheets, comprehension questions for each chapter, A character graphic organizer, and book report project ideas. The comprehension question range in difficulty. Target skills include: locating facts and details, drawing conclusions, sequencing events, answering wh questions, cause and effect, figurative language, and making personal connections. I have personally used this unit with a wide range of ability levels. The wide variety of question types (multiple choice, fill in the blank, True/False, constructed response) allows me to tailor the activities to meet the needs of the individual student.
