This novel unit was created to use in a 4th and/or 5th grade class. It was made to be used in a classroom using Google Docs, but can also be printed out and used as a paper workbook. The file you will download is a PDF and ready to be printed. This unit covers the following:
-Character traits and comparisons
-Describing the setting and characters
-Summarizing major events and the book
-Making predictions
-Short answer questions that require students to provide text -evidence and support their answer
-Context clues

The following are the 4th and 5th grade standards that are covered:

4th Grade
L 4.4a - Use context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.

RL 4.2 - Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.

RL 4.3 - Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).

5th Grade
L 5.4a - Use context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.

RL 5.2 – Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text.

RL 5.3 – Compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text
