This minilesson is based on the true story of a solitary dolphin that swam near New Zealand and was named Pelorus Jack. A springboard to discussion and research the informational text (or story) is certain to captivate your students. It comes complete with a color picture (it shows up black-and-white on my tiff preview) of the dolphin leaping up to passengers on a ship. There are 6 reading comprehension questions in multiple choice format. The reading skills they assess are Making Inferences, Drawing Conclusions, Locating Details, and Vocabulary. There is a 7th bonus question which requires students to make a judgment as to whether this dolphin story is a happy one or a sad one. The answer key is on the 4th page.
