Following a trip to see Winter and Hope, the dolphins in the movie, "Dolphin Tale 2", I had to incorporate their stories into my annual program. When Scholastic made available "Dolphin Tale 2 - a Junior Novel" by Gabrielle Reyes, I jumped!
Because the book is so new on the market, I did not find any lesson plans yet on it and therefore had to create basic components on my own. Here is the short-answer comprehension package my students used to help them read along and understand the book. And YES, an Answer Key is included. *Happy dance*. A bundle that includes a whole book test as well as the project I did to close the unit will be up soon.
I also pointed my students in the direction of Clearwater Marine Aquarium's website called seewinter.com for more information on this inspirational dolphin. Homework included watching the movie "Dolphin Tale 2". Boy, did the kids ever love THAT homework! To complete this novel study, we watched the documentary about the real-life rescue of Winter, a DVD that I purchased during my visit to the CMA.
At the very end, each student was presented with a dolphin bracelet that came with the package deal from Scholastic. They had not known about the bracelet till the very end. Win-win-win all the way!
