Engage students in developing their understanding of the value of a given fraction with this fun game of WAR! Students reason about the size of the fractions represented by dominoes to compare them.
Students use strategies such as finding an equivalent fraction and creating a visual representation to compare two fractions.
In a twist off of the regular card game, "WAR," students draw a domino, interpret it as a fraction (2, 5 would be interpreted as 2/5 or 5/2, depending on the level of the student), and see how their fraction measures up against their partner's. Students then use an inequality (or equal) symbol to show how these fractions compare. The student with the larger fraction gets a point for that round! Students tally their points at the bottom of the page.
