This is a companion activity to the classic game Don't Break the Ice by Hasbro. Students improve their receptive and expressive vocabulary skills by learning the names and attributes of characters from the wonderful book, The Mitten, by Jan Brett, while playing this popular game. This set includes:
* 11 animal/character vocabulary pictures printed on 22 ice block-sized cards
* 11 animal/character picture vocabulary game cards
* 15 vocabulary game cards
Younger children can play this game using only the picture vocabulary cards to work on a variety of expressive and receptive language concepts.
Older children can play using both sets of cards to work on sentence construction skills, vocabulary and narrative skills.

This set does NOT include the Don't Break the Ice Game by Hasbro or the book, The Mitten by Jan Brett. You must purchase these items separately.
Prior to setting up the game, attach one small picture card to each small ice block. Place the ice blocks in the frame. Select either the vocabulary game cards or the attribute game cards, and place them in a pile facedown on the table. Players take turns turning over a card and tapping the matching ice block until it falls. Play continues until all the ice breaks.
