Have a student that needs a break? The idea stems from a social worker. If you have students that have behavior issues or get overwhelmed and therefore act out, you can set up a "Don't Bug Me" chair. This chair sets in the back of the room, or somewhere away from the students. When a child needs a "break," he/she can go to this chair. No one can talk to this student while he/she is in the chair so he/she has time to cool off (maybe 10 min). The student is able to cool off and still hears the lesson being taught. Use this poster to designate the area or chair. You can also use the poster at the child's desk for the same reason, no designated area in the class, just the understanding that this child is to be left alone for a few minutes.
