“Tell me, I'll forget. Show me, I may remember.
But involve me, and I'll understand.” – Chinese Proverb
Don’t Forget To Label is a short, humorous, original play that shines a spotlight on the importance of using the correct label when identifying perimeter, area, or volume. The characters are up-to-date and full energy.
This play for three voices may be practiced and performed in a small group of three students or as a whole class divided into three sections. Students also enjoy performing the play on their own, changing their voices for each character.
Costumes are not necessary but it is helpful to have a student wear a sign or hat that shows the name of the character he or she is portraying. Often, I create these simple signs with paper plates and yarn. Once it is labeled with a character’s name, the paper plate sign can be hung around an actor’s neck. At times, a stapled strip of construction paper is used to create a headband that displays a character’s name.
There’s no need to memorize parts! Students use their scripts as they perform the plays. This allows them to both see, say, and hear the key vocabulary words.
The performing and learning continues outside of the classroom! Performing a play for parents at home is always a welcome alternative to a paper-and-pencil homework assignment. I have received wonderful feedback from both parents and students.
This calculator riddle packet is also the perfect addition to a substitute teacher's "bag of tricks".
Perfect for homeschoolers!
