This 38- page resource provides inserts for student journals to remember the 5 reasons authors write. The mini cards can be used for Headbandz activities in the classroom. The labels and task cards can be used to complete the fabulous lesson by Hope King found here: http://www.elementaryshenanigans.com/2016/12/pie-face-studying-authors-purpose.html
How to Use:
Page 4: Chart that can be used for students to refer to during your lesson.
Pages 5-6: PIE’ED acronym cards for student journals
Pages 7-16: PIE’ED mini definition cards. Can be used for student journal inserts or Headbandz review.
17-18: PIE’ED pan labels. Tape them to the inside of your foil pans to be used for the game.
19-21: PIE’ED “nutrition labels” These are clues that will help students identify the author’s purpose as they play the game. If you’re using foil pans as I do in my own classroom, I’d tape them to the inside of the pan as well. There are blank labels at the bottom of each page if you’d like to make your own list of “ingredients.”
22-36: PIE’ED Task Cards.
37: Task Cards Answer Key
38: Choice Board- I use this as a check for understanding informal assessment. Feel free to use as an extension activity.
