Don't Miss the Bus! A Back to School Sight Word Game - With Dolch Primer Words
A fun way to practice sight words all year long!
Aligned with Common Core ELA Standards ELACC1RF3
Print, cut out, and laminate all of the game pieces.
Attach the Game Title to the front of a paper bag, and the directions to the back.
Place all of the pieces inside the bag, and voila! You’re ready to go!
Depending on the level of your students, they could also have to use the sight word in a sentence
Players will roll a dice to see who goes first. The person with the highest number will start.
Each player will take turns reaching into the bag to pull out a card.
If a player gets a bus with a sight word on it, he or she must read the word correctly. If he cannot read the word, then the card is placed back in the bag. If he correctly reads it, then he keeps the card. Then it’s the next player’s turn.
If a player gets a “Missed the Bus” card, he or she must put all of the cards they've collected back in the bag. The “Missed the Bus” card is then put to the side.
If a player gets a “Fast Lane” card, he or she may draw 2 additional cards; but must still follow the previous rules.
Play will continue until there are no more cards left in the bag.. The player with the most cards wins!
