Don't Pick the Crab
A Roll, Say, Keep Sight Word Game
This is a sight word game to use in literacy stations or with small groups. I have included the following 120 words: an,
see, and, are, we, it, for, you, go, ran, oh, fly, thank, come, here, this, said, went, away, goes, where, down, good, after, stay, back, they, will, with, came, take, help, get, some, play, way, boy, us, out, again, all, who, yes, very, by, his, her, hide, I’m, ride, got, she, today, not, girl, cried, love, home, saw, that, then, had, but, have, let, has, did, is, little, up, in, the, on, am, no, like, look, big, at, my, can, jump, from, make, made, open, gone, may, color words, and number words.
Place an equal amount of cards in each section. I usually put 6 cards in each section. Mix the special cards in with the
word cards. The children take turns rolling a dice to determine which pile they should take the card from. They
will read the word and keep it. If they can’t read the word, they leave it in the pile. If they draw a crab, they have to
give a card to every player. If they draw a sun, they take a card from each player. If a child rolls a number in which
there are no more cards, he/she loses a turn. The child with the most cards after all the cards are taken is the winner.
