This is a vocabulary building/expressive language activity. To play, students draw cards and describe the given item, but they can’t use the word(s) on the card! For beginners, instruct them not to say the target word or word #1. For students who need more of a challenge, instruct them not to say the target word, word #1 or word #2.
Ex. “donut” (#1 circle, #2 sweet)
Student describe the word “donut” without using the words “donut,” “circle,” or “sweet.” This will require critical thinking! Do a few examples together first. This activity is divided into the following major categories: food, animals, household items, sports items, and school items.
Included: Describing Words visual, 30 cards for each category (each category has a different color outline for easy category sorting), blank pages for each category to write your own, plus coins with various point values that students can earn after completing cards (print 2 copies).
