Product Description
This word reading game will give your students plenty of practice decoding real and nonsense short vowel words with a consonant blend. It is perfect for literacy centers, RTI, partner work, small groups and special education.

Directions: 1-6 players
Cut out the game cards and place them in a pile in the center. Each player will need a game mat for sorting. I laminate the game mats so I can reuse them throughout the years. Players take turns drawing a card from the pile. If they get a marshmallow, they read the word then determine if it is a real or nonsense word. They place the word in the correct mug on their game mat. However, if they get a card with a spilled mug of hot cocoa, they must return all of their marshmallows to the center pile.

*TIp* You can always remove the "spilled mug" cards and use this as a word sort. You could have students work independently if it is used in this manner. I find the "spilled mug" cards are very useful for literacy centers since they keep the game from ending and require students to continue cycling through the cards.

Check out other games and center ideas on my TPT page. There are also multiple versions of this game available. You can combine these together to form a review game. I also find it helpful to have multiple versions so I can easily differentiate centers for various reading groups/levels.
