This year, I have 80 students, but in the past (at my old school), I’ve had up to 160 students in one year! Giving them each a gift (even at $1 a piece) starts to add up. So my husband (a government teacher in our school) and I came up with these witty DONUT Take a Quiz Valentines. Big kids LOVE a free quiz or homework pass! Plus, who doesn’t love a good donut pun?! They’re always so thankful, and even my big, tough seniors smile at how punny (& nerdy) we are.
Once I give them their valentines, I always stress the importance of keeping them in a safe place until they are needed. Even still, I usually have a few students who misplace theirs. Unfortunately for those students, they do not get to use their cards; however, I like to consider this sad situation a good lesson about keeping track of important things. Many students tape their cards to their binders or the inside of their lockers to keep them in a safe place.
Even though the cards specify a free quiz, you can certainly stipulate that the cards work for homework too, which is the option I have for you on the editable PowerPoint. You can edit the details to fit your class or you can simply leave the details off and give them verbal rules.
I love how these cards look in color and on cardstock, but they also look great on plain paper or in black and white. Bonus: If you use the black and white version (included), your students can color them; my kids love “coloring therapy.”
Bring in some yummy donuts to go with your cards for an extra special treat! :)
