Here's another piece from my upcoming book The Big Book of Modes. This is a composition in Dorian Mode and introduces the students to eighth notes (ti-ti).
While it has a minor overtone, there's a hint of major tonality as well. Advanced students can be taught all about the corresponding chords that go with it. This piece ties in really well with Cascades; one of my earlier pieces.
You can use the chords/movement from Cascades to correspond with the melody here. The possibilities are endless.
Beginner students should first read the rhythm (if they've been taught the Kodaly or Gordon's MLT method) and then the solfege.
Works well with a group or solo lesson on piano as well.
