Have you ever had a student look to you during a state test and ask you how to say a word? Sadly, the only response you can say is something like "try and figure it out." Even worse, this rarely seems to help and the student ends up frustrated and feeling unsuccessful.
This mini-book is a great way to help teach our older students exactly what we mean by "try and figure it out." It uses a strategy called "Spot and Dot." (For more on Spot and Dot, visit our store!) The students learn what it means to break words apart by spotting the vowels, noticing and marking affixes, as well as scooping the syllables. This is also a great way to teach vocabulary, so each word has a place for the students to doodle, or quickly draw, the meaning of the word, as well as a place for the students to define the word in a "kid friendly" way to help them understand the meaning.
In this book, you will find 21 different vocabulary words that deal with feelings. This is a great way to prepare your students for these hard words that appear on tests, as well as expand their vocabulary for writing. The following words are included in this book:
Students will have a blast using this booklet to learn how to be successful in pronouncing words, as well as learning new vocabulary. Use it as whole class test prep, as a station once students understand how to Spot and Dot independently, or as a bell ringer- working on a few words a day.
**Printing tip: Print front to back and fold down the center. This makes a quick and easy booklet!
