This is a great first lesson for your Data Analysis/Graphing unit. Through the years, I have found that students really struggle with labeling a number line for various graphs such as dot/line plots, scatter plots, box-and-whisker plots, etc.. This lesson has the students practice labeling number lines for different situations. Then, the lesson flows right into notes on line/dot plots, followed by three different sets of data with which students will make a line/dot plot. One set of data will especially grab the students' interest because it deals with their birth month! A student printable that goes along with the lesson is included.
