Dot and Box Articulation is a flexible NO PREP variation on the classic dots and boxes game. Students can practice their speech sounds while trying to box the most speech sound pictures!
Each page contains 35 target words. The following sounds are included:
•Initial and final K, G, F, V, S, L, CH, SH, J
•Initial R, TH
Directions for All Variations:
•All pictures boxed in a single turn must be touching, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
•If there are not enough pictures left for the number rolled on the dice, the player loses his or her turn. Alternatively, if you want to ensure every student practices their targets each turn, ask the student to roll again until he or she is able to take a turn.
•2 Player: This version may work if you are working 1:1 with a student, have 2 students working on the same sound, or if you are sending this home for a student to play with a parent. Each player takes a turn rolling the dice, drawing a box around that many pictures, and then (if desired) daubing each target picture in the box with paint daubers as they are practiced. The player with the most pictures in boxes at the end is the winner.
•Group session: Give each student a playing mat. The students take turns rolling dice and boxing that number of pictures. If desired, each student can daub each picture in the box after practicing it. The student who has the most pictures boxed at the end of the session is the winner.
