Syllables are huge on the Common Core State Standards! And not just counting syllables, but also knowing the rules on how to break apart words into their syllables! Scary- right?!?! I came up with the idea to count syllables to their beat. Just like a beat in music, words have beats also. Add music to anything and kids are instantly engaged! After introducing syllables this way, I then teach my kids to dot the vowel sounds and scoop the syllables to the beat while using the basic syllable rules.

This HUGE 111 page packet has everything you need to introduce and practice syllables. Included in this packet are:

~Common Core State Standards that align to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade.
~Anchor charts and word lists for each basic syllable rule.
~Mini lesson that teaches students how to dot vowel sounds and scoop the syllable in 1,2,3 and 4 syllable words.
~Tons of practice sheets and word sorts that go with the syllable rules.
~3 center activities that include word sorts with recording sheets and a fun board game.
~Read and Write the room activity with recording sheet.
~Most activities are “Rock Star” or Music themed. I also added an ice cream scoop activity to go with the scooping idea!
