Dot the Caterpillar is a dice counting game for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. The mat features a cute orange and blue caterpillar who needs some spots!
Make four copies of the mat and laminate for extra durability. Use the mat with small buttons in assorted colors. Students take turn rolling the dice and "dots" to their caterpillar. I keep a box with 100 buttons for the students. When the box is empty, the student with the most dots is the winner! I updated the game in June 2015 and included addition/subtraction cards you can use instead of dice.
I use this game in one of my Guided Math stations. It is a fun way to practice counting and one-to-one correspondence. You can also use it in Language Arts with the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
