These are math and literacy activities I use during my Dots and Spots unit. Some of the books I read during this unit are: The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lioni, and Press Here by Herve Tullet.
These activities include:
Top Secret Subtraction: beginning subtraction problems in a tiny font. The kids use a magnifying glass to read the problem, then solve.
Dots and Spots Book: A fill in the blank writing book that has 3 pages. 1. A big dot could be ____. 2. A little dot could be ______. 3. Lots of dots could be ________.
Bubblegum 5's: Instructions ask the student to color 5 gumballs in each of 5 different colors.
Sight word memory: A sight word memory game where the students build simple sentences about a dog named Spot and a cat named Dot.
Write the Room: The students write the room, sorting words into things with stripes and things with spots, as well as fill in the beginning sound.
Word Family Dots: The students cut out the spots, and sort the words into word families.
