Do your kids need some extra practice with double digit addition using the representational model? Are they tired of worksheets? Then Exercise Scoot is just what you need!
Scoot! is a fun activity where students will travel from station to station or desk to desk to solve problems. It is a great activity to get students up and moving, while still practicing on academic skills. This one is EXTRA special because it includes EXERCISE!
Give each student a recording sheet. Students will start at their own desks (or an assigned spot) and answer the problem on their task card, writing the answer in the corresponding box on the recording sheet. When students are finished, the teacher will say, “Scoot!” and students will move onto the next desk or station.
They will continue to answer problems and move around the room until they get back to their own starting point.
This set includes four games- (Each in color and black and white depending on your preference.)
1. Practice counting base ten blocks
2. Practice drawing base ten blocks
3. Practice drawing base ten blocks for addition - no regrouping
4. Practice drawing base ten blocks for addition - with regrouping
There are 30 cards in each set. You can always remove cards to make the game shorter. Some games I like to partner kids as well.
For the exercise cards - I did not put a number to the
exercise task. You can stipulate the number of each exercise at the beginning of the game depending on the day. For added challenge, have them count by fives or tens to 50 or 100. It's always great to get math and LA in the same game!
Scoot! games can also be used as task cards at a center!
