Students play this game to practice 2-digit vertical addition and subtraction. There are several versions in order to differentiate and best meet the needs of your students (all versions look the same, but are titled differently to differentiate between the different skill focus). See below for game directions and versions. A recording sheet is also included for students to show their work when solving the equations.
****PLEASE NOTE…..THIS GAME STAYS WITHIN 100 (therefore there is only regrouping to the tens place).
This game requires no cutting, so you can just print and play! This game does, however, require a die and markers (or different colored counters).
Race To the Castle
Directions: Players place their playing piece on start. Player 1 rolls the die and moves his/her piece that many spaces. The player then solves the equation. If correct, he/she may stay. If incorrect, he/she must return to the previous square. Then it is the next player’s turn. Players may choose which path to take to the castle, but beware, as one path is filled with more dangers! The first player to make it to the castle and correctly solve the equation is the winner.
