This double digit subtraction scoot game allows students to have kinesthetic fun while practicing common core standards:
2.NBT.5. Add and Subtract Within 100 Using Strategies
Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
2.NBT.7. Add and Subtract within 1000 With Models
Add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three-digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds.
This game is a HUGE hit in my second grade classroom as it gets students up and and moving and gets them motivated to work efficiently, flexibly and accurately on double digit subtraction problems. Simply share directions, print and cut one set of cards (pg.2-6) and a recording sheet for each student (pg. 7-8 - I copy double sided). All you need to add is a timer!
There are two way to play as explained in the included directions (moving around the room or with a pile of cards at a table). After we have played it in our classroom for several weeks this makes for a great take home game that requires little prep.
