Product Description
This product contains 2 part puzzle cards for words with double medial consonants - bb, cc, dd, ff, gg, ll, mm, nn, pp, rr, ss, tt and zz. There are 160 basic words and and additional 38 more challenging words. Print in color or black and white. The cards for each consonant have a different shape, so only cards with the same medial consonant will fit together.
These cards can be used in a variety of ways:
- Give individual students the cards from one or more consonant set and instruct them to build and record the words.
- Provide a small group of students with two or more sets of cards in a paper bag. Start each student off with 4-6 puzzle pieces. Place the rest of the cards in a paper bag. Students take turns taking a card out of the bag and checking to see if it will complete one of their cards. If so, the card is kept. Unused cards are returned to the bag. The first player to compete all their words is the winner.
- For a different small group activity, select two or more sets of cards. Remove cards (both halves of a word) if necessary so there will be an equal number of cards for each student. Deal each player an equal number of the cards, face down. When all players have their cards, they may turn them over and try to find matches. As players determine which cards they cannot use, they place these in a common space between players. Other players can then take these cards to make additional matches. When all word parts have been matched, the player with the most words completed wins.
- Select one or two sets of cards, or a mix of cards with different consonants. Be sure you have both halves of each word. Divide the cards into beginning and final halves. Give individual students, or small groups of students, one half of each word (this can be all beginning halves, final halves, or a mixture), Challenge them to write down words which will complete the word chunk.
Whichever activity you choose, your students will gain valuable experience with double medial consonant words.
