Students will practice when to double the consonant before adding -ed. These task cards help students to use the spelling rules to decide if they need to double the consonant.

Rule posters are included and a marshmallow theme center!

Task Cards

There are two sets included and 24 cards in each set.

Set 1: Students will read the word on the task card and add -ed. They will use the rule posters to decide if they need to double the consonant before adding -ed.

Set 2: Students will read the word and decide if the spelling is correct. If it is correct they will write yes and if not they will write the correct spelling.

These task cards work great to use during center time or for partner work.

I laminate these cards and hole punch the top left corner. Then I put them on a binder ring so students can easily flip through them.

Center

Students will work on a roasting marshmallows center to help them practice adding -ed.

There are two work mats that have campfires on them. Students will add the marshmallows to the fire depending if they should double the consonant.

Students have so much fun adding the marshmallows to the correct fire. Then students will write down the words with -ed on their answer sheet.
