This is a simple but powerful activity for students in grades k and 1.
The children will take ownership of their work because this isn't just some handout - but their flip book!
The first few minutes of class can be spent coloring and decorating the front cover. To reinforce skills with using a scissor, have students cut along the dotted lines. Explain that by cutting we are creating flaps or doors for each doubles addition fact.
Inside each flap, students will draw a picture of two groups of items (using two crayons or colored pencils), count the total, and lastly record the sum!
