I designed these worksheets using domino images up to double sixes to help my ELL students understand the concepts and vocabulary associated with Doubles and Neighbors (Doubles +1) math facts. This four-page packet includes
- a Doubles and Neighbors cut and paste sort
- a Doubles and Neighbors match and solve
- using Doubles + 1 to solve Neighbors
- writing two equations for a Neighbors domino
To introduce the word "double," I had my students fold a piece of paper in half, paint 1-10 dots on one side, then close the paper and press to "double" the number of dots. After opening the paper again, I had them write the accompanying Doubles equation and solve it. In Spanish, the word "fold" (doblar) and "double" (doble) come from the same root, so the activity worked beautifully as an introduction to Doubles facts.
