This resource includes four activities for practicing doubling the final consonant before adding –ed and –ing suffixes with a pumpkin patch theme. Perfect for word work or literacy centers in grade 1, grade 2, or grade 3!
To use, simply copy the recording sheet and print and laminate the base word pumpkins and pumpkin patch background. Place the base word pumpkin cards on the pumpkin patch background in the middle of your center table.
There are four sets of pumpkin base word cards provided. You can use different sets of cards with different groups of students to differentiate your centers or use different cards on different days, increasing the difficulty as you go.
Orange and yellow cards contain only base words that follow the double the final consonant rule. Green and black cards contain words that follow the rule, as well as some examples that do not. Students will have to decide whether or not to double the final consonant when using these cards.
A center direction page is provided. Recording sheets are provided with and without handwriting lines.
Lined writing paper is also provided and can be copied onto the back of the recording sheet for writing sentences using the words. It is also perfect for any fall-themed writing activity.
